Central Cardiff Housing Scheme

O:AD studio have been asked to prepare a set of plans and concept design for a mixed use scheme on a brownfield site in Central Cardiff. This corner site is currently occupied by a mixture of business and residential units. Locally, the site sits within the influence of the city centre and views from the site are dominated by the Principality Stadium to the East.
The desire is to provide a more intense scheme, using the corner of the site to provide height and drama to the scheme whilst being respectful of the more modest housing that lines both sides. A stepped form links the tallest element to the street scene and a contemporary material palette is proposed to soften the design yet provide a high quality statement to an important nodal point in the city. All flats have been designed to DQR standards with ancillary areas included to provide amenity and storage. On the whole the proposals represent a balanced scheme that includes an element of commercial use at ground floor and 28 high quality residential dwellings.
