O:AD have been appointed to prepare an application for the restoration of an existing stone cottage and outbuildings on the Gower Peninsular. The existing stone cottage, boasting spectacular surrounding views, has been uninhabited for over a century and as such, has succumbed to the elements. The majority of the original fabric however is still largely intact and a structural survey has determined that with careful consideration, the cottage can be rebuilt to its original glory.
During the initial design process, we have concentrated on the history of the cottage and its existing fabric. Further accommodation has been added via subservient buildings, focusing on sensitive materials that will complement the surroundings whilst creating a sensible linear connection through the building. Framing key views and ensuring we do not overcrowd the existing cottage is crucial.
